Class 302 aka 三年2班

I learned about Class 302 from Yelp awhile ago and paid my first visit today. It's a small and very cute Taiwanese restaurant off the 60 fwy on Nogales in Rowland Heights. If I was born and raised in Taiwan, I imagine this is what my elementary school classroom would look like. The big colorful chalk board was the first thing that caught my attention when I walked in and next were the old wooden desks and chairs. It's a friendly and probably nostalgic environment for some (or maybe lots). The service is somewhat non-existence so don't expect to get a friendly greeting or any super attentive waiter, because you'll just be disappointed. Although I have to admit I was quite impress with how quickly our food came out. As an appetizer we started out with the yam fries with plum sauce. Although the menu says "plum sauce," it really was just plum powder, which I loved. I think I like the plum powder more than the yam fries themselves. Is that wrong?

For myself, I ordered the sausage and chicken roll lunch box special. So simple yet so delicious. It came in a tin lunch box too. I haven't seen these lunch boxes since I was a kid. I didn't used them myself, but my aunt from China used it for her lunch. It supposedly worked wonders in keeping your lunch warm. At least I hoped so, because the tin lunch box didn't look very microwave friendly. The chicken roll was crispy and the sausage was good. So no complaints there. Class 302 was definitely not stingy with their 酸菜 (pickle vegetables).

My friend ordered the pork chop on rice lunch box. The pork chop wasn't crispy and I don't think it was suppose to be. I only had a piece and I don't know if I really care for it. I think I'm so used to having the crispy pork chop when I eat at a Taiwanese restaurant, that this one was a just a little meh. Perhaps I should have ate another piece, then my taste buds could probably make a better judgment. Her lunch box came with two layers. So cute.

As for dessert, we ordered the green tea with red bean shaved snow ice. If it was mango or strawberry season, I think I probably would've opted for a more fruity selection, but since it wasn't, green tea just had to do. Well guess what? It was delicious. The snow ice was light, fluffy, and exactly like snow. The green tea ice cream wasn't too sweet and mixed well with the light layer of condensed milk and sweet red beans. There was an added bonus of little clumps of mochi. I'm definitely coming back here again for the shaved snow ice.

Class 302 kinda just made my Sunday a little less boring. ;P
